Milk-addicted Toronto comedian pledges to ditch dairy if climate comedy show sells out

Dhama teams up with Plant Based Treaty to raise funds — and eyebrows — for the planet

August 14 2025 – Toronto-based comedian and founder of the Toronto Climate Comedy series, Dhama, has made a pact that could change both his diet and his punchlines. If his upcoming Toronto Climate Comedy 3.0 show at the Society Clubhouse sells out on Friday, August 22, 2025, and raises $2,500 for climate campaigners Plant Based Treaty, Dhama will give up dairy milk for an entire year.

For the self-professed “milk addict,” this isn’t a small step. “I hope this development doesn’t reach my Mom because she will lose trust in life if I stop drinking dairy milk,” Dhama joked. “She still thinks I’m gaining height. It’s about choosing between Mother and Mother Earth — I am worried about my own mother!”

The show will feature Dhama alongside six other comedians for a night of sharp, climate-themed stand-up. The event blends local comedy with environmental activism, spotlighting how humour can be a tool for climate awareness.

Dhama, who moved to Toronto from India five years ago, left a 12-year corporate career to pursue stand-up full time. With an engineering degree, an MBA, and a sharp wit, he launched Toronto Climate Comedy to merge his two passions: environmental advocacy and making people laugh. His first seven shows this year sold out, and he hopes August 22 will be his biggest yet.

Plant Based Treaty advocates for a global shift towards sustainable, plant-based food systems, aligning with the Paris Agreement and promoting city- and institution-level plant-based policy. Since its launch in 2021, it has garnered support from 45 cities — including Brampton and Caledon — as well as Nobel laureates, IPCC scientists, and thousands of individuals and organizations worldwide.

“This partnership is a fun way to get people talking about climate action while raising money for an important cause,” said Anita Krajnc, Global Campaign Coordinator for the Plant Based Treaty. “If Dhama can give up dairy for a year, maybe it will inspire others to take their own steps for the planet.”

Dhama’s Biography

Dhama moved to Toronto from India 5 years back, and his climate journey started during Covid. He holds an Engineering and MBA degree and has worked in global organisations across Singapore, India and Canada. He left his 12 year old corporate career last year to become a stand-up comedian and has combined his 2 passions – climate and comedy by launching Toronto Climate Comedy. Apart from performing as a comedian, he has also been producing shows in English and Hindi for corporates and general audiences in Canada. He sold out his first 7 shows this year and is looking to break all records on August 22nd for Toronto Climate Comedy 3.0
