Culver City becomes the 58th city to endorse the call for a global Plant Based Treaty

City agrees to provide residents with plant-based educational material and encourage plant-based food at special events

November 12, Culver City — On November 10, 2025, Culver City’s city council in California passed a motion to endorse the Plant Based Treaty, becoming the 58th city worldwide and the 5th city in the United States (West Hollywood, Los Angeles, Hoboken, and Boynton Beach) to support the initiative.

The motion reads as follows:

That the City Council:

  1. Adopt a Resolution that Urges the United States of America to Support a Plant Based Treaty;
  2. Authorize City staff to provide educational outreach about plant based diets; and
  3. Authorize City staff to include language on special event permits and facility reservations encouraging plant-based foods.

November 12, Culver City — On November 10, 2025, Culver City’s city council in California passed a motion to endorse the Plant Based Treaty, becoming the 58th city worldwide and the 5th city in the United States (West Hollywood, Los Angeles, Hoboken, and Boynton Beach) to endorse the initiative.

The motion reads as follows:

That the City Council:

Culver City Councilmember Bryan “Bubba” Fish said, “The climate crisis is at our doorstep and it’s harming our most vulnerable first and worst. The Plant Based Treaty is an effective way we can take action right now to make our communities healthy and sustainable.” 

Samantha Lau, City Campaigner and US Liaison for Plant Based Treaty, said, “We are ecstatic to partner with Culver City to bring public information about healthy sustainable food choices to the community! It is an honor to partner with Culver City on the day that World Kindness Day was declared because that’s what Plant Based Treaty is all about  spreading kindness through our food system!”

Kim Delgado who volunteers as a City Campaigner for Plant Based Treaty said, “As a proud longtime resident of Culver City, raising my two daughters here, I’m so thankful for the city elected officials aligning with the Plant Based Treaty to bring plant based food forward in our city, proving once again, that our beautiful city leads the way by being progressive in sustainability!”

Dan Thorman, Co-Founder of LA Climate Week, said,  “Culver City is really smart and progressive to adopt and work with Plant Based Treaty. It will have long-term effects on cost savings as well as building a resilient and healthy community for their residents. This initiative is really important in supporting the fight against climate change”

Background Information:

The Plant Based Treaty is modeled on the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, and since its launch in August 2021, the initiative has received support from 58 cities, more than a quarter of a million individual endorsers, 5 Nobel laureates, IPCC scientists, and more than 4000 groups and businesses, including chapters of Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth.

The Plant Based Treaty has secured high-profile endorsements from celebrities, including Bif Naked, and Paul, Mary and Stella McCartney, who issued a written statement calling for politicians to support the Plant Based Treaty. They said: “We believe in justice for animals, the environment and people. That’s why we support the Plant Based Treaty and urge individuals and governments to sign it.”
